Session description: Digital Advertising has been one of the great growth stories of the 21st century. Google, Twitter & Facebook now dwarf the market capitalisations of more established Fortune 500 global companies on the back of businesses built on online advertising revenue. This growth has been driven by advances in technology and data driven targeting making digital advertising more relevant accountable and targeted; And so with this backdrop of scientific advancement, and maturation of spend, many of us have jumped to the obvious conclusion that everything we’re doing in this industry must be right, and must be good. But of course its not; the consumer experience of much of what we do is terrible. Lets stop kidding ourselves. This session will look at the myths and the reality of the consumer experience of lone advertising, it will hypothesise on what we’re getting wrong, and why, and suggest a model for better digital advertising in the future.
Ben Wood is one of digital marketing’s industry veterans. Now driving the vision for iProspect globally, Ben previously oversaw phenomenal growth of the UK business since its launch in 2010. For two consecutive years, he has been voted within the top five of The Drum Digerati top 100 most influential individuals in digital.
In this speech Ben will hypothesise that great digital marketing is as much about the science (analytics, technology, data) as it is the art (the intangible power of great creativity) and in this context he will explore the right shape for the agency of the future and debate whether the industry is getting it right.
