Session description: How insights and creativity today are more important in building brands and businesses than ever before. Marketing has always been about creatively conveying the right messages to the right people – and measuring the impact on hard metrics of perception and behaviour change. In a mobile world, this is even more true. Boredom has ceased to exist, because endless amounts of content are available at a thumbscroll. Hence every second of attention brands try to win from people has to be worthwhile for them. Otherwise they will just scroll and click on. Nico will talk about both the never-changing levers of marketing we shouldn’t just toss onto the altar of “digital”, but also about the nuanced differences and epic shifts necessary to stay relevant in people’s lives. Nico aims to motivate you to explore the amazing opportunities to build more interesting, more human and ultimately more impactful marketing.
Nico Westermann is Regional Head of Creative Shop at Facebook and has been with the company since 2012. In this position, Nico advises companies and agencies on how to best implement brand strategies on Facebook. Before joining Facebook, Nico worked as a Strategic Planner for national and international brands such as Nike, Volkswagen, Knorr, Ricola or E-Plus in the agencies AKQA, Jung von Matt and Scholz & Friends. His work across traditional and digital has delivered outstanding results, winning Effies (gold, silver and bronze), the NMA Effectiveness Award, the APG Creative Strategy Award but also Gold and Silver Lions in Cannes. Nico Westermann has a background in communications and strategic planning from the Berlin University of the Arts as well as business studies from the University of Grenoble and the University of Hagen.
