Dr. Thomas Frey, Executive Director and Senior Futurist at The DaVinci Institute
Timeslot: April 29th – 15:00
Stage: Main Stage
Session title: The Marketing of Things with the Internet of Things
Session description: What if everything you were thinking about buying already knew you were considering a purchase? Much like going on a date, where the person you were dating wanted to look their best for you – what if the product went through a similar process, primping it’s hair and donning an inviting smile to present itself in the best possible light? Welcome to the Internet of Things, where our intentions always precede us. The simple act of inspecting a product, or weighing its potential, will cause ten times as many sensors and emotional rankings algorithms to peer back. Your prospective product will be inspecting you far more thoroughly than you’ll be inspecting it. In it’s own conniving way, these products will use all of the tools at their disposal to position themselves in a better light. Everything from rotating the platform its on, to changing in the spectrum of light, turning on a point of purchase video, or shifting the music playing in the background, every “things” product will modify its look and feel until it gets an optimal emotional reading from you. Welcome to the world where our products are smarter than we are, and the marketing professional becomes the all-knowing strategy wizard behind the proverbial curtain. Join us as Futurist Thomas Frey paints a marvelously creative picture of the future we will all soon inhabit.
Author of the 2011 book “Communicating with the Future,” Futurist Speaker Thomas Frey is a powerful visionary who is revolutionizing our thinking about the future.
As the Executive Director and Senior Futurist at the DaVinci Institute, he works closely with his Board of Visionaries to develop original research studies, which enables him to speak on unusual topics, translating trends into unique opportunities.
